October 31, 2009 Pebble Isle Marina to Clifton, TN

October 31, 2009
Pebble Isle Marina, New Johnsville, TN to Clifton, TN

Finally a beautiful day to cruise!! We started the day with a buffet breakfast at the Pebble Isle Marina, and got underway around 9:15 AM. We were not in a hurry as we were only going 62 miles with no locks to Clifton, TN. We were able to thoroughly enjoy the beautiful Tennessee River. The Tennessee is deep with few channel markers needed, and lined with colorful bluffs, coves and sloughs. Although it was a Saturday, we encountered two tows – otherwise we were nearly the only cruiser on the river. We arrived at the Clifton Marina at 4:30 - The river current took about 2.5-3.0 knots off our speed. The Tennessee River is a north/south river that flows south to north.

Happy Halloween.

Our intent tomorrow is to stay in Clifton and visit the town – stay tuned for our landside adventures. Or we may just read our books.

    M&C,
Great new addition to the blog and all the photos opened to the larger format. Port looks content in his usual place on the couch. You guys look good too. We spent halloween with the G-kids and today will continue with our unending clean up of the fall leaves. 36 this morning and hopefully 50 later. Your adventures seem much more fun. Safe travels.

  2. Give Port a big smooch from me! He looks so cute and cuddly in that picture.

Beautiful colors along the river and those tiny houses on the side of the cliff by the lighthouse are not so bad either! :)

  3. Hi Guys,
It's great that you are finally getting to warmer areas. I have finally found you on a "road" map, with the help of Holly. Are you taking the Tenn. River to the Alabama and down to Mobile? I think I see where they might meet up -- at least with a little bit of portaging they will meet.

I got to see the Charger/Raider game at our stadium on Sun. Such fun to see the Raiders defeated by the Chargers. And on a sunny 80 day. Planting more pansies and mums in my hanging baskets today. What are you putting in your hanging gardens?
    Love you, Judy

  5. Oh, sure! Bailey gets into the slideshow as a "friend of Grateful",
but, do I? Is that my brother's doing?

  6. Hey Judy,
It wasn't Mark's doing - I just missed you although I know you are a friend of Grateful. I'll try to figure out how I can get you there!!
Love you all and love to hear from you.
