We woke up to pouring rain, and needed to call for a truck to bring diesel fuel to the dock. They could bring the fuel at noon or 4:00. Just giving rationale for why we just decided to spend the day in Lake City instead of pressing forward. Because of walking the dog and taking on fuel, we have soaked through one set of clothes. Fortunately we did not need to haul Carol’s clothes in a barge behind Grateful. Our traveling companion, Port is content wrapped up in a towel trying to dry and stay warm.
Yesterday at the north end of Lake Pepin, we met a towboat/barge. There was plenty of room in the channel for both of us. The seagulls like to follow boats to see if tasty morsels of food become available in the wake.
We had a bit of luck today when we took on fuel. A big tanker came down to the marina and backed down the ramp. Mark backed Grateful into the lift station. We filled the tanks and only needed 252 gallons instead of the 400 we were expecting. And then we thought there would be a surcharge because of the truck, but we were only charged $2.25 per gallon!! Savings all around and by purchasing fuel on the Mississippi rather than the St. Croix, we saved $1.00 per gallon.
Day #2 of no TV. Mark has directed most of his efforts toward this project. Keep your fingers crossed.
Well, we are all jealous of your sojourn south. You may be experiencing the rain, but we have to stay here all winter. So, we have some sympathy, but not much empthy for your predicament with the weather.
ReplyDeleteWe are glad you miss TV. However, please remember you have the Diesel engine tape.
Also, please remember that tonight Twins won the division in 12 innings. They may not win another game, but tonight is theirs!

and the adventures begin... I love it!!! Holy cow, you're getting gas cheaper than out here. I'm in San Diego right now and it's $3.49. And the tanker doesn't deliver it to me, I have to go find it. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying it thus far and keeping up on the blog.
Miss & love you, H
Looks like your getting lots of rain at the start of your adventure. Snow is predicted here for Saturday, 10/10. Rain is better. Enjoy reading your blog and seeing the photos. Keep it up. Looking forward to seeing you in Florida in just a few weeks. Keep the wind at your backs.
