Turner Marina, Mobile, AL
Singing in the rain, just singing in the rain……..
Yep, we are still here and happy for it. We are safe, if not dry and we expect 6-8 inches of rain yet to come. We hear it might impact the high tide being 3-4 feet higher than normal.
We also are getting great mariner advice from people here. Tomorrow morning we have a date with one of the marina owners and he will show us his route to Tampa Bay and good places to anchor. He says he makes the run in three days. We want to hurry, but we also want to make the gulf crossing with a group of boats. So we’ll see what happens.
We also have enjoyed watching this loon-like bird in the harbor. He frequents us often and the other day we watched him catch lunch and swallow it almost whole. If anyone knows what this bird is, please respond. People here say they have seen loons in the past couple of years, but this bird clearly is not a loon, but has some characteristics.
So glad you waited and are still in a safe port, rather than out there anchoring in the rain. Have a nice eventful-free crossing.
ReplyDeleteI get to substitute for my friend in ceramics. So, I will be potting and loving it next week. Then the following week will work on the sore unused muscles. Then get to relax in the sun with you guys.
Love ya, Judy
I met a local guy who used to be a guide in Ely, MN, and he says there's tons of "common loons" and other loons that migrate to here every winter. He said their "winter coat" of feathers is colored differently than their "summer coat"...who can blame them for wanting a new coat?...so perhaps it is a loon come to visit you from MN.
ReplyDeleteWe are hoping to cross the gulf on Monday so hopefully all will be sunshine and sandy beaches very soon.
